Shared Education
Vision and Ethos of the Partnership
We see our vision of shared education as being where schools collaborate across sectors to ensure that all children and young people have opportunities to learn together within the Derg Valley. We do not view shared education as just another policy initiative but believe it is essential to help schools improve and to increase educational outcomes for all children and young people by preparing them to play a full and active role in building and sustaining an open, inclusive and confident society.
P3 The Magic Harp
P3 Pupils along with P3 pupils from St. Joseph's PS and Ardstraw Jubilee PS have met to study 'The Magic Harp'. They have completed craft and literacy activities on the book as they renewed friendships from previous years. Finally they travelled to Gortin Glens Forest Park to finish off this year's activities.
P1 Play Dates
Pupils from St. Joseph's PS and Ardstraw Jubilee PS along with our pupils met at our three schools for play dates. We had great fun getting to know each other.
P6 Sow and Grow Project
P6 pupils travelled to Hillsborough Castle Gardens in March where they learned about growing plants, tending and harvesting them. Each school then planted their own garden of vegetables in their grounds. The vegetables were harvested and enjoyed by the pupils with some of them being used during a cookery lesson hosted by Castlederg High School. The carrot cupcakes were a real hit!
P7 Diversity Project
The P7 pupils from all the schools in our cluster met on several occasions to complete fun practical numeracy activities using their Izak9 cubes. They completed a Maths Trail together at the Ulster American Folk Park along with pupils from Castlederg High School. It was really interesting.
